Abstract (if available)
Abstract Storytelling has always been an important part of my life and has been used as a way to learn more about my ancestors. For those who’s ancestors came through the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, unforutnely we do not have the exact information of where our ancestors originated, or family keepsakes. Storytelling has been a way of passing down one’s heritage and to remind the children of the diaspora that we belong to something bigger. While this medium has helped to educate families, many of the stories are tainted with elements of generational trauma that have affected millions of Black people around the world. This thesis is truly a labor of love with the goal of educating those on the history of Black storytelling and how generational trauma unfortunately continues to impact generation after generation.
